About the Device
A quick introduction to the controller before you start.
What am I holding?
You're holding a gamepad which is a handheld device with two thumbsticks and several buttons. Each part sends its own signal to the computer, so that the computer can read exactly how far a stick is tilted or which buttons are pressed. You can press any button or move either stick to see the controller respond in the illustration on the right.
Components you will interact with:
- Thumbsticks — two small analog sticks, tilted in any direction to control movements.
- Shoulder buttons — L1/R1, sitting along the top edge under your index fingers.
- Triggers — L2/R2, pressure-sensitive buttons just behind the shoulder buttons.
How to hold it comfortably
- Hold the controller with both hands, one on each side.
- Rest your thumbs comfortably on the thumbsticks.
- Keep your index fingers resting near the shoulder buttons or triggers.
- Avoid gripping too tightly — a relaxed grip is easier to sustain.
- Feel free to adjust your hand position at any point if anything feels uncomfortable.
Which thumbstick would you like to use?
